Ransomware is a computer virus/malware program that borrows its tactics from kidnapping; hackers seize control of your computer and demand you pay a ransom to unlock it. Recently, hackers have been targeting victims with ransomware that impersonates the FBI. Kevan describes how computer users get a message that claims to be from cybercrime@fbi.gov, informing the user that their computer has been frozen due to copyright violations. To “pay your fines” and unlock your computer, according to the scam, you must pay $200 via MoneyPak. As Kevan says in the video, this scam may look very official but don’t fall for it! We recommend disconnecting your internet, running your antivirus software and (if necessary) restoring your operating system. What’s worse than a virus that cripples your computer? A virus that cripples your computer and blackmails you. That’s what ransomware does. The latest ransomware to threaten consumers also impersonates the FBI. Here at Scambook, we’ve received over 50 complaints about hackers posing as cybercrime@fbi.gov and exhorting consumers for $200 paid via MoneyPak. It works under the same scheme as such FBI moneypak virus, Metropolitan Police Ukash Virus, Australian Federal Police Ukash Virus, etc. They forge warning messages to frighten users into paying fine ranging from 100 dollars to 400 dollars on purpose. Designed by black-hearted cyber criminals, Internet Crime Complaint Center virus virus is simply a ransomware that claims you may violate the laws related to illegal usage and distribution of copyrighted content, such as music or videos. Laws covering distribution of pornographic content are also given. To unlock your computer, it’s necessary for you to pay a certain fine. After a payment is made, the message informs that a special code will be sent which will unblock computer in limited period of time. Please don’t be taken in. Instead, you should remove it as soon as possible.

How to delete FBI Moneypak exe file using Antivirus 1) Start by shutting down your computer by holding the power button for ten seconds. 2) As the system restarts, press F8 key twice to bring up the advanced boot options. 3) Use the down arrow to select “Safe Mode with Networking” option. 4) Using the browser, go to norton.com 5) Click the button “Download Norton Power Eraser” (this antivirus will delete FBI Moneypak) 6) Save it to the Desktop and double click icon to run the exe file 7) Agree to the User License terms 8) As soon as Norton Power Eraser initializes, click ‘Scan for Viruses’ 9) Let it Restart to scan 10) Tap F8 again as the computer reboots 11) Use the down arrow to select “Safe Mode with Networking” option again. 12) Click Run to allow Norton Power Eraser to automatically scan. 13) Once it finishes, you’ll see the ‘Scan Complete’ window with the results of the infected file. 14) Click the Fix button at the bottom to delete FBI Moneypak, if found. 15) It will ask you to reboot or restart your system one more time. Click Restart. 16) When your computer reboots to normal mode, you’ll see a confirmation that NPE removed the FBI Moneypak exe file.
