The IT – Network Communications Specialist program prepares students to maintain and support local and wide area networks, computer communications systems including router and switch configurations, hardware & software infrastructure management/design, voice and video over IP, private telephone systems (PBX), voicemail systems, and video production. Potential students should enjoy hands-on activities, working with people, and problem solving activities. Prior computer experience is beneficial, but not required. Network Communication Specialists are needed in almost any business using local and/or wide area networks, the Internet or Intranets, and telephony systems. To request more information about Southwest Tech or the IT-Network Communication Specialist program, click here: www.swtc.edu

Software Synchronization Puzzles Multithreaded applications often require synchronization constraints; for example, we might require one thread to write a value before another thread tries to read it. A semaphore is a software building block that can be used to enforce arbitrarily complex constraints, but getting the details right can be challenging. In the Little Book of Semaphores, I present this material using a series of puzzles, starting with basic patterns, working through classical synchronization problems like Readers-Writers and Dining Philosophers, and ending with some new problems constructed by my students. In this talk I will introduce semaphores, basic synchronization patterns and a few classical problems. I will demonstrate (and test) solutions to these problems using an animated thread simulator called Sync. The Little Book of Semaphores and Sync are available from Green Tea Press. Allen Downey is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the Olin College of Engineering in Needham MA, and a Visiting Scientist at Google, Inc. He is the author of How to Think Like a Computer Scientist and several other Free Books.

This is the VOA Special English Technology Report, from voaspecialenglish.com | http Hundreds of students from around the world recently gathered in New York City for the Microsoft Imagine Cup finals. They came to present their ideas for using technology to solve world problems. Microsoft education director Suzi Levine says the nine-year-old program began mainly as a competition to create technology. She says, “When we realized that students really actually want to have a purpose for what they’re creating, we introduced the idea of inspiring them with the UN Millennium Development Goals and suggesting that they use those for their muse.” New sources for ideas this year included intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations and nonprofits. They can submit some of the technical challenges that they would like students to consider for their solutions.Microsoft says over three hundred fifty thousand high school and college students registered for this year’s competition. Judges chose more than four hundred of them to attend the finals. Ms. Levine says several teams were inspired by current events, including floods last year in Thailand. A team from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand “created a Windows Phone 7 application that allows you to broadcast your location to your social network of friends so that you can be more easily rescued.” There were also ideas from Egypt inspired by the revolution that overthrew president Hosni Mubarak in February. Ms. Levine says one …

If you guys want videos like this please comment. I did this repair in 32 minutes, it was overheating. There was a big clump of dust blocking the vents, as well as the Thermal Paste being completely dried out. This was a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop. Hinges were loose and It was infected with many viruses. The Customer was happy that i fixed all of the issues as well as Replacing the Keyboard. The Keyboard was missing the left shift, the button, and the #9. I did this in the middle of the cafe in my college. It was funny seeing so many people staring at what i was doing! I just love taking apart Computers. I don’t think i will ever stop enjoying this. I was listening to Duran Duran, on my iPod. The music in the background is Nights!: Journey of dreams OST.
