How to Upgrade Your Hard Drive ——————————————————————— If you’re wondering why your computer is so slow, the problem is most likely your hard drive. You may wish to upgrade so you can get up to speed. You can choose between two basic types of hard drives. 1. A standard hard drive connect with either an IDE (integrated drive electronics) or a SATA (serial AT attachment) cable. 2. A solid state hare drive is one with no moving parts. It’s a newer style that is becoming more popular. You’ll also want to keep a few things in mind when choosing which hard drive to upgrade to. * The RPM (revolutions per minute) is the speed at which the disks spin inside the drive. 7200 is a good, normal number. Anything below that would be considered inadequate. Anything above is always better. * Cache is like short-term memory. It’s a small block of memory dedicated for the temporary storage of data that is likely to be used again. A larger cache is usually better than a smaller one. * The capacity refers to the size of the hard drive, which reflects how much data can actually be stored on it. How many programs can you install? How many files can you store? The larger the capacity, the more space it has to store programs and files. * The interface refers to the manner in which the hard drive is …
