First of all, this will only work if you are running Windows NT 6.0+ (Windows Vista, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7) This process is aimed at those who have installed Windows BUT don’t have a product key and therefore running an illegal copy of Windows which they don’t own. Windows have tried to keep this to a minimum by shipping an update called “KB971033″ which allows your computer to communicate with Microsoft Windows about the activation status. However, if you haven’t provided a product key during setup, you have 30 days to activate. Once, this update has been installed, you will get pop-ups asking you to activate Windows. At this point, you cannot get update from Windows and use some of their features such as Aero Theme in Windows 7. You will also get pop-ups during start-up. But there has been a way of getting around this and activating Windows has been simple.
