Many computer problems associated with booting up are common issues that are easily remedied. Most startup problems can be traced directly to the source if they are addressed immediately after they occur. The following tips will help diagnose the most common computer startup issues you will encounter.
Viruses and Spyware
Viruses and spyware, collectively known as malware, can cause many problems with your computer and its start-up process. Using antiviral software, such as AVG Free, can alleviate these problems and protect your computer in the future.
Anti-Virus Software Conflicts
Running multiple antiviral programs can greatly interfere with your computer’s startup process. To eliminate these issues, simply uninstall or disable one of the programs.
Startup Programs
Having too many programs launch upon startup can slow your computer down. Either uninstall unnecessary programs or disable them at startup. To disable programs on startup, click on the Start Menu, then on “Run.” Type “msconfig” in the dialogue box that pops up. In the msconfig window, click on the startup tab, where you will be able to disable (or enable) any startup programs.
Recently Installed Hardware
If you have startup problems immediately after installing a new piece of hardware, typically there is a hardware conflict. To verify this, remove the newly installed hardware.
Recently Installed Software
If new startup problems arise immediately or even shortly after installing new computer software or updates to existing software, the problem is likely the new software. Restart your computer to see if the problem persists and, if so, uninstall the new software.
